The Harlem Children’s Zone, Inc.’s College Success Office (CSO)
provides year-round academic, administrative and emotional support as
well as financial and career preparation to graduates of HCZ’s high
school, afterschool programs. Our mission is to make sure they become
college graduates who can be successful in their chosen career paths.
The main components of the CSO include: student outreach, academic
support and guidance, financial aid advisement, community building
efforts within our program, college admissions transfer assistance,
and winter student internship program.

The CSO is currently seeking full-time College Advisors to effectively
guide, support and advise a caseload of 40+ college students and to
work closely with the College Success team to strengthen the services
provided to our students.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Work one on one with a caseload of 40+ students, providing them with
academic, financial and career advisement and guidance
• Advocate on behalf of student various college and university offices
on behalf of CSO students. These offices will include but are not
limited to: Financial Aid Office, Academic Support Centers, and
Admissions office
• Responsible for collection of students’ grades and transcripts twice
a year.
• Additional responsibilities relative to planning and executing
community building programs of the CSO
• Responsible for inputting case notes on all students twice a month
• Responsible for the creation ad implementation of Action Plans for
each student on caseload twice a year
• Performs other duties assigned

Qualification, Skills and Knowledge Requirements
• Must possess a Bachelor’s degree
• Prior experience working with adolescents preferred
• A specific interest in higher education
• Be creative and possess strong organizational and communication
skills, verbal and written
• Knowledge of the financial aid and admissions process
• For this position, knowledge of the financial aid process and
personal financial management is critical
• Bilingual preferred (fluent in Spanish)
