Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Program

Mindfulness-Based

Stress Reduction Program

Eight Week Group Program

Wednesdays 6 to 8pm, March 30 – May 18, 2011

at the Colonie Youth Center, 21 Aviation Road, Colonie.

In the stressful times in which we live, we are asked to cope with and adjust to uncertainty, constant change, increasing demands and a rapidly accelerating pace of life. In the face of this, it is critically important to realize that we have the strength, stability and resilience within us for effectively meeting these challenges. Mindfulness is a way for you to access these inner resources.

The Center for Stress Reduction at UMASS Medical Center in Worcester, MA has used mindfulness-based stress reduction for 25 years to teach patients to cope more effectively with stress and illness using this eight week group format. Classes meet for 2 hours once a week and there is one day long class. Daily practice assignments are 45 minutes. People participate in this program for diverse conditions including stress, heart disease, cancer, chronic pain, depression, anxiety, high blood pressure, and asthma. Others simply express a desire to feel more balanced and at ease in their lives.

This program is sponsored by the Colonie Youth Center’s Counseling Program and facilitated by Karen Beetle, LMHC. Karen is a therapist with CYC and a mindfulness teacher. She has practiced meditation since taking this course 15 years ago. The cost for this course is $325. Some scholarship funds are available, please ask.
