HELP WANTED:FLOOD DISASTER RELIEF CRISIS COUNSELORS

Temporary Part-Time and Full-Time
Schoharie & Schenectady Counties

The Schoharie County Office of Community Services is in IMMEDIATE NEED of Temporary Part-Time and/or Full-Time Crisis Counseling Outreach Workers to provide outreach and crisis counseling to individuals in Schenectady and Schoharie Counties who have been directly or indirectly affected by the recent flooding.

These positions are temporary and scheduled to start almost immediately with training provided by FEMA

Responsibilities can include (but not limited to):

 *   Providing crisis counseling to a diverse population.
 *   Making referrals for needed therapeutic services.
 *   Assisting with community outreach events.
 *   Disseminating informational packets and brochures.
 *   Completing all necessary documentation.

Requirements:

 *   Bachelor’s Degree in a Human Service field preferred.
 *   Experience in Mental Health preferred.
 *   Crisis Counseling experience preferred.
 *   Knowledge of the community is important.
 *   Initiative, focus and stamina are key.
 *   Strong communication and organization skills are a must.
 *   A vehicle and a valid NYS driver’s license is a must.

All school counselors are invited to join HESC's staff and NYSFAAA for the 2011 HESC College Access and Financial Aid Training For School Counselors. This series of workshops for school counselors offers an ideal opportunity for attendees to learn about available federal and state financial aid programs, including recent developments. Information useful in assisting students who are at risk of not attending college will be emphasized.

Many of the high need students and families you deal with every day face obstacles that may hinder them from receiving financial aid. This may be due to a lack of available information about their particular situations or difficulty in navigating the financial aid process and completing the FAFSA. This workshop will address special circumstances in financial aid such as non-traditional families, homelessness, and residency, as well as strategies for dealing with difficult families, and early awareness opportunities.

Reserve your place at a workshop using our online registration form. We recommend that you register early since seating is limited.

There is no limit on the number of individuals who may attend from each institution,

but each person planning on attending must register individually.

Continental breakfast and will lunch provided.

Check-in at all sites will start at 8:30 a.m., with training beginning at 9:00 a.m.
